How do you become a Chiropractor?
First, as with any school of higher learning, pre-requisites - subjects required before admission - are needed for chiropractic college. This may require at least  Bachelors Degree depending on the institution. Also some states require a B.S. degree along with the D.C. degree to practice in their state. The Chiropractic colleges are usually 4 to 6 year institutions.

In addition to classroom work, training includes an internship period where student chiropractors treat patients under the direct supervision of an instructor. Also, some colleges and states require an externship as well. However, the majority of the school work is done in the classroom or the laboratories.

Comparing Medical vs Chiropractic Education:
Some people think that Chiropractors do not have the "same" education as medical doctors and are therefore not "Real Doctors". However, since both work with the human body, much of the education is very similar - but there are important differences that make each a different specialty. The chart below compares M.D. and D.C. education and was compiled from 22 medical schools and 11 chiropractic colleges curriculum catalogues.
