FACT:

Low back pain (LBP) in most cases can be traced back to the primary joint of the low back, the Facet Joint. This facet joint is the cause of LBP in 85% of the cases. See the x-ray below for a look at the lower lumbar and facet joints.

TIP:

When lifting, bend your knees and keep your back straight. Hold the load as close to your body as possible and lift with your leg muscles instead of your back muscles. And this is real important, DON'T twist to the side when lifting! It torques the discs and ligaments and can cause severe problems and pain.

Of course, if you do, you know where to find me!

Steve Haas, D.C.

A Pensacola Chiropractor since 1991.

"My patient's and I work together as a team to a healthier end, because I treat the source of the problem, not just cover up the symptoms".

After locating the misaligned vertebra in your back, I manually "adjust" the spine re-aligning the bones which helps to takes the pressure off of the nerves and surrounding tissues. It also helps restore alignment, improve mobility and flexibility, and relieves  muscle spasms and pain.   Dr. Steve Haas

So you have

Low Back Pain?

Dr. Haas may can help!

Your low back, (that part of your back below your last rib to your rear) is a part of your spine that is constantly being over worked. It is a vulnerable area that is constantly under strain. It supports your entire upper body. It bends, twists, picks up and puts down different weights all day long. It is over used and abused. So you have LBP? No wander!

The major cause of LBP is the "joint" on the back side of your vertebra, the Facets. The facets also form the IVF, or hole where your nerve exits the spine and goes to where ever that nerve goes. See "FACT" on the left for more info.

   What Chiropractors Do:
Chiropractic (in a nutshell) looks for and corrects Vertebral Subluxations (misalignments of the vertebrae which cause nerve irritation and/or impingement).

LUMBAR  SPOT  X-ray of L4-S1

This a an x-ray (side view) showing the lower backs last 2 bones. The Facet Joints (indicated by the circles) cause 85% of back pain. See how the facets are above the white line of the L4/5 and L5/S1 vertebral units? They are "suppose" to be below that line. The nerves exiting the spine at these levels are probably being "pinched" by the facets. Because they are riding up into the joint, it makes the IVF (hole where the nerves exit the spine) smaller. ALSO notice the disc space between the last 2 bones is narrower. This is a case of "Degenerative Disc Disease" and does cause "Facet Imbrication" (jamming).

Now you see why X-rays are important? Chiropractors can suspect this is what's going on, but with the X-ray, we know it!

DTS Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression           We also have the new DTS Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy table in our office. The DTS System is specifically designed to help reduce and/or correct disc related problems in both the back and neck such as disc herniations or bulges and facet jamming. This is the latest technology to help restore your disc to their normal state without the need for painful and often unnecessary surgery. The protocol is 20 sessions lasting from 15 to 20 minutes each. This is followed by electrical stimulation to the affected area along with cryotherapy (ice). Once stable, core strengthening is used to help stabilize the area for long lasting results. But no, the table can't do the exercise for you. Your cooperation is vital to your success in this as in any endeavor.

Although Spinal Decompression therapy is NOT a covered service under insurance, it is still the most cost effective alternative to often unnecessary and painful surgery. The cost is many time less than your co-pay for surgery, making it very affordable.

We use several of the most Advanced Technologies to treat back and neck pain. From the Computerized ProAdjuster for gentle non-forced adjusting which uses a resonance tapping type force to adjust the bones, to the newest therapy, DTS Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression.
